Fall is about to be here and it’s not just the leaves changing -your yard is as well! While the growing season may be coming to a close, it’s very important to continue to take care of your lawn in the fall. Let’s take a couple of blogs to discuss fall lawn maintenance and the health of your Sacramento lawn during the upcoming season.
With time, most lawn soil becomes compacted from foot traffic and regular use. By aerating your lawn you loosen up the soil and allow air, water and nutrients to reach the roots. If you have a large lawn, try renting one for your local garden center. If you’d like a little more information on aerating your lawn, check out our blog post here.
Weed Your Lawn
Did you know that like grass, weeds go dormant during the cold season? Fall is a great time to treat for weeds so that you can stop them before they spread further or go dormant. When temperatures are over 60°, you can use a traditional or organic herbicide. There’s always the age-old option of pulling them out yourself, but you risk leaving the root in ground. Once you remove the weeds, be sure to seed the bare spots to keep your lawn even.
