It’s easy to disregard your lawn all together once summer ends; but having a winter lawn care program in place is essential to having a great lawn for spring. Here are a few tips to smoothly prepare your Sacramento lawn for winter.
- Clean it up! Rake all the leaves, then mow and add all the leaves to a compost pile. Right before the first snowfall of the season, mow the law on a low setting. Leaving grass too high during the winter can cause mold or turf diseases. Make sure to burn any dead plants/flowers.
- Prune and trim. Cut off any dead branches. This is the best time to do it during their dormant months!
- Plant! This is the best time to plant your bulbs for spring. Veggies are also great to plant in the winter, including spinach, broccoli, cauliflower and more.
- Mulch. Mulch your garden beds with at least two inches of organic matter. This will provide nutrients for the upcoming season. Do this around your trees and shrubs also to keep roots protected from winter snow.
